Other Projects

Achieved Results During the Period October – December 2015 include:

Baseline survey has facilitated the writing and submission of inception report that acts as a benchmark for the implementation of PEML activities. The survey has facilitated the collection of data that can be used as a starting point for the program, and a benchmark for evaluation of the program in the future.

The identification and engagement of key VC actors has led to the identification of 22 producer groups, 6 processors and 1 AMCOS which are potential beneficiaries of the PEML program.
Mobilization and organization of producer groups, processors and marketing associations into viable economic groups has led to the formation of 20 producer groups who have been added as the beneficiaries of the PEML program.
The C/TNA has identified the training requirements of the producer groups, processors, AMCOS and SACCOs which, if fulfilled, will improve the performance of these groups.
Through supervising farmers on initial activities for 2015/2016 production season, small holder farmers have been educated on agronomical practices for the sunflower VC and have been linked to improved seeds supplier where by more than 200 producers who are members of producer groups and 20 farmers who are nonmembers have purchased improved seed for this farming season.
The VC analysis has enabled the identification off key value chain actors and how they depend on each other to ensure smooth operation of their activities; it has further allowed the identification of the key activities performed by different actors along the sunflower VC. The gross margin analysis has enabled smallholder producers to understand how they produce using high costs and sell at a lower cost that leads to losses.
